C’n’B 2011 – The Future of Television

Has the classic TV format had its day in times of YouTube, Vimeo and web media libraries? Is the future of television the Internet? Are engaged formats such as the David Lynch Internet Project Germany unthinkable in public TV broadcasting? Among others, we asked Konstantin Neven DuMont, Vimeo founder Zach Klein and Stephan Balzer, Managing Director of communications agency red onion about their opinion.

This year, the C'n'B in Cologne discussed the future of the Entertainment industry. 2010LAB.tv was actively involved in the spectacle and asked Konstantin Neven DuMont, Vimeo founder Zach Klein, Managing Director of stern.de Christian Hasselbrink and Michael Heise (rtl interactive) about their opinion on the future of television. Will TVs soon be redundant? Have YouTube and Vimeo put the nail in the coffin of stations such as MTV? What is the strength of a linear programme structure; what do TV stations have to deliver in the upcoming decades?

Stephan Balzer, Managing Director of red onion became a producer in the course of the David Lynch Interview Project and did not make good experiences with the public broadcasting structures. The web offers him free space for quality productions.

Hasselbrink can also imagine that giants such as Apple or Google could become the programme directors of tomorrow if traditional TV stations don't manage to cater to the needs of their future target groups.

Yet vimeo founder Zach Klein stresses the qualities of classic TV stations and doesn't believe in their downfall.
One thing is obvious: The sector requires a rethinking. Those who have not yet started the process might soon miss the boat...
