New Urbanism: What is the role of the Creative Class really

The European Union spent some € 2.2 billion for the development of cultural infrastructure in the last 7 years. Did it help? In the UK David Cameron just stopped the re-development programs for cities and sets up new strategies. In Baltimore however the Creative Council invests in film festivals to develop the city. Where will 2012 lead to?

This 2010lab newsletter thus focuses upon the places in transition. Changing cities embrace the creative industry. But does the administration care about it? Often the precarious living of independent artists is just swept away by gentrification. Where are the unexpected innovations to be found? What is their idea of representation?

Moreover we welcome a new city onboard: Nantes. The French city in the Department Loire-Atlantique plays an important independent role in centralised France – not only cultural-wise.

We wish you a happy new year!

Kind regards,

How web activists combat consumption - A new year, lots of new year's resolutions and projects. To clean out the closet for example. And while you're at it, take care of the desk as well. Or maybe the entire life right away?

LondonLondon - Filling forty football pitches
When the Olympics leaves London, a hangar the size of 40 football pitches will be left behind. It’s low spec, big, hard to get to, and in the middle of a giant park. What better for some creative use?
