Zechenkind creates unique historic pieces

Winners of the 2010LAB.tv competition "Pitch for PICNIC"

The Dortmund-based label "Zechenkind" manufactures bags and accessories from old overalls that were worn by miners - trendy and supporting the history of the Ruhr area at the same time.

Bags, lanyards, messenger bags, purses, laptop and smart phone cases from used materials don't really represent innovation any more. Yet Zechenkind proves the opposite. The material is a real highlight: The useful and unique pieces are made from recycled miner's clothing. Zechenkind cleans the robust and down-to-earth miner's clothing from the "Pütt" and turns it into new products. Each product from Zechenkind inevitably represents a piece of the Ruhr area's history in the broad everyday-light of its owner.

Besides the online shop, Zechenkind distributes its products in selected stores within the Ruhr metropolitan area and is currently in the process of expanding with a shop in New York.

Zechenkind is one of the five winners of our competition "Pitch for PICNIC“. The company will not only participate in the leading European fair for the creative industry PICNIC from 14th to 16th September. The conference in Amsterdam also offers the exclusive opportunity to give a 12-minute pitch presentation of the products in front of an international expert audience.
