Transmediale.11 – digital techniques and concrete art

The initiators of this year's Transmediale.11 present themselves at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. They plead for openness and freedom for digital media, and admit to the thought of process and the idea of performance.

With its open room concept, the imposing congress centre in the Tiergarten district offered insight into a large variety of digital art, concepts and ideas with their partially analogue and manual realisation.

On the initiators' side, the parting art director of the Transmediale Stephen Kovats, the curator Ela Kagel and the future art director of the Transmediale Kristoffer Gansing get a chance to speak. What does this year's motto Response:Ability aim at?

On the side of the exhibiting media artists, software developer Dmytri Kleiner Thimbl presents alternatives to Twitter as free open source micro blogger. Musically-creative interaction is delivered by Ei Wada's magnificent Touchscreendrumpads which are simple Braun tubes.

In the Open Design City, artists such as Christopher Döring open up their independent workshop. "Make Your Own Market“ invites everyone to work directly on putting your own ideas into practice with your own tools. In the Upcycle workshops for example, Judit Meijer creates new design objects from old tea bags.
