"Transforming a Metropolis" - Prof. Dr. Claus Leggewie on the future of the Ruhr
During the international scientific conference "A metropolis in transformation" of the Institute for Cultural Science (KWI) in Essen, renowned scientists gathered on the premises of the former mine Zollverein, now part of the world cultural heritage.

The scientists diligently analysed the Ruhr area concerning history and perspectives: Can the region be defined as metropolis? Which role can a Ruhr metropolis play in a European context? How can this area, marked by the heavy industry, react to the challenges of a changing climate and changing energy requirements?

The scientific director of the conference and the KWI, Professor Doctor Claus Leggewie, comments on the central theses of the symposium in this interview with 2010Lab.tv.
