Theatre of the world - Anna Rispoli converts Ruhrbania into a stage
- Series: Kreativ.Quartier.Ruhr, Kunst
The Metropolis Ruhr is European Capital of Culture 2010 and therefore the best host to invite the whole world along by means of Theatre of the World.
Almost 400 international artists will take the audience on a journey around the globe.
Starting June 30th , ending July 17th 2010 the festival takes place in Mülheim a.d. Ruhr and Essen, providing new sensations, surprising encounters and unexpected events.
One of the extraordinary participants is Anna Rispoli.
In her works she intertwines urban space with private refuges. For her latest project "A Piece of Land", the ships of the white fleet of Mülheim and the already finished foundation of one of Mülheim’s biggest construction areas, Ruhrbania, become a stage.
Between Brussels and Bologna
The artist lives in Brussels and Bologna. She’s not very keen on marking or branding a city with a label or slogan just to sell it better.

To keep a city alive and interesting, you have to acknowledge its complexity, is her opinion. Together with people who want to live and work in Ruhrbania, she discusses the project. Based on their individual visions, they stage a transient moment.
Apart from her own projects, Anna Rispoli works in the collective ZimmerFrei which was invited to the Biennale in Venecia 2003 and to the Manifesta 2008.
