New places, new ideas

Australian musician Kat Frankie on the effect a place has on your art

Six years ago, singer-songwriter Kat Frankie moved from Sydney to Berlin. At this year's Juicy Beats festival in Dortmund, the musician told us which advantages she sees in the city and why relocating is advisable for artists.

It is hard to belive that it's the same person: In her video "Love Me", she acts appears cool and self-confident - on stage and in the interview she seems to be shy and rather restrained.

She tells us how her planned trip abroad turned out to be six years. If the city is really the reason behind the fact that her songs don't convey a sunny and happy feeling but appear rather longingly  and full of melancholy is something we would only be able to answer if she was to write songs in Sydney again.

At the moment it seems as if the artist was very pleased with our country as she states in the video interview with 2010LAB.tv - we may thus hope for many more "Berlin songs" from Kat Frankie.
