Melez - the train is rolling
- Series: Kunst
The European Capital of Culture on tracks: the MELEZ festival converts a city train into a meeting place for travellers, regional and international artists.
On Friday, the MELEZ train stops at Mülheim’s main station – the day’s motto is „MELEZ on (sound) tracks“: various world music performers will „collide“ and mingle, followed by a party in the Ringlokschuppen.
On Saturday, the train is east-bound and the Ruhr metropolis meets Ruhrussia at Dortmund’s main station, while as of 18:00, Thomas Bug, together with musicians, lyricists, and scriptwriters will be busy composing the “cheesiest“ love song of the capital of culture (within record time!).
Until the grand finale (from October 28 to 31 in the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum), the MELEZ train will be rolling to more than 20 events.

These days, more than 5 million inhabitants do experience the transformation of their post- industrial Ruhr area in the western part of Germany to an exciting European „place to be“, a budding metropolis in a post-Capital of Culture 2010 identification process with its industrial culture as part of a collective memory being a characteristic feature – and an orchestrated mass event.
