KOSICE MULTIKULTI - MONTH FULL OF LIGHTS

December 2010 was a month full of lights in Kosice. Besides enlightened ones and the christmas decoration also thanx to event organized by MultiKulti: DJ at Work. As its name whispers it was about music. And definitely not only. The range was massive.
So the choice fell down to visuals. Mgr. Oliver Tomas provided opening with his excellent lecture "esthetics of VJing". During his talk we could travel in time and enjoy the charm of antiquity, feel the progress with magic lantern in 17th century, freedom of 60's and 70's video art and today with nostalgia remembering the first laser shows in Kosice back in 90's. The challenge for the future is to realize that the quality VJing is not the slide show of the pictures and filters applying but the creating of sense giving sets through interpreting individual subsets and reacting to music.
VJ Betakaroten introduced older and newish version of SW Resolume and compared the pluses and minuses of both versions. Plus of the new version is that it offers much more layers to play with. As minus she mentioned a missing random play function. VJ Endoskopi presented her toy Arkaos that you can get only as a set: SW and pre mapped controller. She mixes only her own clips and Arkaos is according her words something for visual based artists. VJ Stix presented open source SW VVVV, more suitable for graphic designers with programming skills. It is very similar to PD (pure data, also open source SW) but more convenient for VJ's
Kosice: A Meeting Place for Avantgarde VJing
From 1st till 18th December there was a chance to experience workshops focused on sound production, mixing, turntablism, scenography, history of VJing, many kinds of audio and visual software, technical part of the game etc, all together divided into 12 days. The list of all concerned names would be longer.
