Kosice - busy week
Each presenter has 20 images, each image is shown for 20 seconds. This rule keeps the evening concise and fast-paced. The Pecha Kucha Night format was devised and first executed in Tokyo in 2003 by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, the founders of Klein Dytham Architecture. To date Pecha Kucha has spread to 308 cities around the world, including Košice.

Lucia Dovičáková’s solo exhibition “Pandora’s Games” presents a selection of her most recent work. Apart from her usual medium of painting, Dovičáková has recently worked with drawing and watercolours; in the current exhibition she shows for the first time works on paper. Her paintings are characterised by a saucy, at times black, humour, with a point sharper than the knife’s. In her most recent works Dovičáková has been inspired by female characters from ancient mythology, such as Diana, the goddess of hunting, as well as from history, such as the Chinese Empress or the Habsburg icon Sissi. Apart from working with literary and historical references, Dovičáková uses the medium of self-portrait as a vehicle for exploring the stereotypes, collective myths and prejudices that influence not only women but also the mutual perception of the two sexes in the contemporary society. Dovičáková’s visual vocabulary makes use of various symbols and archetypes, her characters are often accompanied by animals that are the bearers of typified characteristics and meanings. Another source of her inspiration are family stories and the oral history handed down from generation to generation. With gusto, Dovičáková digs around in the imaginary Pandora’s box and confronts us with sensitive issues. Turning them upside-down, she serves them up without fear or hindrance. Lucia Dovičáková lives and works in Košice.
