KOSICE ARTFILMS PROVOKING SOCIETY - FIVE STUDENT WORKS
- Series: Media Art
Five videos from the Faculty of Arts at the Technical University Kosice represent random sample of contemporary video artists. All works have been displayed during "open days" at school and some of them also in the public space. The video "Crossing without communication" was one of them and we show it twice, first time shown from the computer screen situated below stairs in the club Tabacka, then followed by the original file. It appears to me that some videos are made to be seen at public places. The last video, linked in the YouTube window, is a little scandalous. The director documents the reaction of town citizens that walk nearby a dead man. Surprisingly it took a while until somebody contacted the police. Of course it was a fake corpse. But the message is obvious...
Each artist has an unique style, own sources of inspiration and miscellaneous influences on his or her creative mind. The one thing they have in common is their school and their teachers.
Anna Tretter is founder and director of the New Media Studio at the Technical University Kosice that was founded in 2004. More details about this charming lady are available on her web page.
When did you realize that you are a creative person?
When I was boring.
How important is technology in your life?
New time, new technology. We must learn to survive within. It's like with every tool, it can help you and it can kill you.
What does Kosice mean for you?
My second life, working with students. A place to develop concepts, working on that visions touches reality, sharing time with people which I like.
Fresh wind, you know. The so called Kosice wind...
Could you name at least one major change of the town itself during your stay here?
You will find the answer at www.wedontneedart.com.
Also big change for Kosice was selection for ECC 2013.
Money helps. But not to forget: culture is where creative people want to live and where they can find good surrounding.
Are students changing as well?
Yes, of course. And I am happy to see that it happen. You know that Bob Dylan song: times they are changing.
What is the most amazing thing that you did learn from a student?
When students talk to me with my own message: never loose the humor and: no, no we will not die, we multiply.
