Innovation Festival Milano: the future of Europe is creative
Experts consider Europe’s creative resources as key factor for economical development in global competition
- Series: Innovation
What makes Europe unique as a future industrial location? During the innovation festival in Milano, the experts answered that question unanimously with a clear reference to the extraordinary creative and cultural potential of Europe.

Creativity and the courage to think innovatively are the European potentials which will be of crucial advantage in the global competition. But they could only be used to their maximum efficiency if the social conditions still to be created enable and support the creative players regarding their free development.
Due to these circumstances, the vice president of the European Commission and EC commissioner of enterprises and industry, Antonio Tajani, sees an obvious need for an increased political cooperation on European level. Only with a tight cooperation, the creativity which is Europe’s crucial advantage in the global competition, could be supported in the best possible way. The ECIA is the right initiative to be a strong instrument for that.

But competition never rests – be in the USA, Brazil, China, or India, other industrial locations have recognised the potential of culture long ago, and present themselves accordingly. Vladimír Šucha, the director for culture, multilingualism and communication at the directorate-general for education and culture of the European commission, points out that this should be understood as a warning to be motivated even more: the future flagship of the European economy will only deliver a peak performance under certain conditions, and these have to be created.
