Gala of the games industry - the German Game Developers Awards 2010
- Series: Ruhr Games
The German Game Developer's Awards may not offer as much glamour as the Echo or Bambi. Yet the Oscar of the gaming scene gains more and more popularity each year. And it proves that the computer games industry plays an increasingly important role within the creative industry.

The Ruhr area has managed to gain a status within the German computer games landscape. With the support of developers and start ups through projects such as the Games Development Initiative Ruhr one aims at continuing to link this growth industry with the region. That's quite clever since computer games are not the large-pixel time consuming-machines for lethargic teenagers any more but often media artworks that present an essential part of contemporary popular culture. Even the German Culture Panel had to realise the fact as the German Game Developers Association (GAME) has been a member since 2008.

Thus, it comes at no surprise that "the most renowned award within the German games industry" is awarded at the Ruhr area's heart - at the Lichtburg in Essen. The premiere theatre that is rich in tradition provides for the appropriate glamour that the games industry has worked out for itself in the last years.
