Festival of the cultures - Duisburg-Marxloh opens the doors for MELEZ

Of course anybody can go to Marxloh! But who really does? And how well-known is this northern part of Duisburg, anyway? On October 2, you had the opportunity to take a look behind closed doors during the „Open Marxloh“ project, part of the MELEZ.Labor2010.

„Open Marxloh“ was a chance to get acquainted with the neighbourhood in which 100 nationalities live in an impressive industrial environment. The Medien-Bunker Marxloh provided an extensive cultural programme for "Open Marxloh" during the „Tag des offenen Stadtteils“ (open district/neighbourhood day): covering guided tours through the district, film and photo exhibitions, presentation of Dutch and local design products, a “Döner” festival, a Bavarian Oktoberfest, live music, and an after show party.

RUHR.2010 director Fritz Pleitgen took a special tour through Marxloh, together with other visitors: residents became city guides and showed their very own, frank perspectives of their neighbourhood – a district in the process of intercultural transformation.
