EMSCHERKUNST.2010 – wild island Gelsenkirchen
- Series: EMSCHERKUNST
The Emscher with all its historic and geographic uniqueness could be considered a symbol of the northern Ruhr area – and the Emscher island between Castrop-Rauxel and Oberhausen, enclosed by the Rhein-Herne canal and the Emscher, epitomises this renaturation project by a landscape being not too vast.
Because of this distinct feature, the initiators of EMSCHERKUNST.2010 have chosen the Emscher island as location for this project – the topological uniqueness of an island and the differences between the single locations on this compact place offer the opportunity to develop new perspectives of a dialogue between landscape and architecture on the one side and architecture and art on the other.
