Creative Innovation Summit Weimar: Joseph Pine's concept of experience economy

„Grow beyond goods and services“

At the Creative Innovation Summit in Weimar, the team of the Thüringer Agentur für die Kreativwirtschaft (THAK) was able to present B. Joseph Pine II, the well-known tech wiz, author, and management consultant as a keynote speaker.

Actually, Walt Disney invented the so-called Experience Economy 1955 when he launched the first one of his theme parks, but B. Joseph Pine II has been taken this kind of economy to another level for the last twenty years. Although he still uses the principle of theatricality, the essential factor is how Joseph Pine combines it with the latest accomplishments in the fields if software and hardware, always taking into consideration that the customer/user is not only king, but also unique.

The director for creative industry at the British charity organisation NESTA is also excited about Pine. Still, as an expert for digital policies and research, Hasan Bakhshi knows that this marketing approach can be very seductive and dangerous for companies – how much should you invest in the experience and emotion aspect of your product apart from the actual development?

Is experience economy really the dernier cri in the digital frontier department? Is it indeed the last and crucial step into the realm of digital revolution?
