100 lights / 100 faces - Komi Edinam Akpemado

100 lights / 100 faces reflects the social, historical, and multicultural reality of the Ruhr Metropolis. The variety and complexity of questions concerning the topic of migration, influencing this region extremely, are the subject of this narration.

Mischa Kuball visits more than 100 persons and families of more than 100 nationalities between Duisburg and Dortmund. They talk about migration, about their lives. These encounters take place in their private surroundings - a photographer and a documentary filmmaker accompany Mischa Kuball.

During those interviews, a lamp designed by Mischa Kuball  serves as a symbol of exchange. It illuminates the private room, a "twin" of the lamp with a documentary photo attached to it is exhibited. Thus, private and public room, art and reality, intertwine.

The result of this communication process will be made accessible for an international audience. Communication media and networks are the prerequisites for exchange and encounter.

The symbolic beacon lamps, the photos and the multi-media documentary on the project will be exhibited in the art collection of the Ruhr University Bochum and in the U, Dortmund's new cultural landmark. The publishing comany JRP Singer Verlag (Zurich) will release the project book, with Harald Welzer / Christoph Keller / Mischa Kuball as editors.

An international conference at the Ruhr University Bochum, realised by Dr. Friederike Wappler, and an according publication integrate this multi-media narration into a scientific-artistic discussion.

Metropole Ruhr
These days, more than 5 million inhabitants do experience the transformation of their post- industrial Ruhr area in the western part of Germany to an exciting European „place to be“, a budding metropolis in a post-Capital of Culture 2010 identification process with its industrial culture as part of a collective memory being a characteristic feature – and an orchestrated mass event.
