ECIA: European Creative Industries Alliance

How the European Commission wants to create sustainably profitable creative companies

The European Commission puts an emphasis on the creative industry. In a joint effort, the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry and the Directorate-General for Education and Culture installed an active platform for the European creative industry: the ECIA.

 

Everyone says that artists and creative heads have to see themselves as entrepreneurs.  Yet a lot still has to be done with regards to the economic understanding of creative work, arts and culture. Many creative people begin their work with financial help of family and friends. This is their only option. The ECIA aims at achieving creditworthiness for creative ideas at financial institutions from the beginning.

 

Expertenaustausch auf dem IF Finale MilanoThe ECIA's web portal which was developed with the platform How to Grow offers creative micro and small companies the support of the European Commission. It's worth checking out this diverse offer. The delegate for innovation politics at the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry, Carsten Schierenbeck, becomes pragmatic and explains how the ECIA helps by giving out innovation vouchers. In the next three years, 100 million euros in subsidies shall be provided.

 

Besides entrepreneurial advice and financial aid, the ECIA shall become the centrepiece for the numerous different areas of the European creative industry and secure their successful exchange with other industries and politics. The small creative will be able to participate on European level from now on. The ECIA will have to prove itself. We will monitor its development.
