100 years after the premiere to the very day, the Ruhr metropolis managed to perform Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 in a way that the composer would probably have wanted it himself without explicitly ever stating that in writing.At the premiere, there were 858 singers and 171 musicians on stage.
