The Painted Bird by Pavel Zustiak

The invitation for excellent performance of american-slovak-polish coproduction, available to see at State Theatre in Košice

The performance "The Painted Bird" is an international coproduction, created by group Palissimo Inc. (USA) with cooperation of cultural organizations like Stanica Zilina-Zárečie (SK), Institute Jerzy Grotowsky (PL) or La Mama Etc. (USA), during the residential stages. Choreograph and director Pavel Zustiak, born in Košice, living in New York, requested for his new project slovak dancer Jaro Vinarsky and music composer Christian Frederickson from the USA. Like in his previous works the setting occurs his specific poetics: mystical, multi layered surrealistic images filled with emotional power.

The Trilogy The Painted Bi

rd speaks about themes of displacement, change and otherness. A solo dance project "Bastard" (first part of the trilogy) is loosely inspired by the controversial novel of Jerzy Kosinski from 1956. What does it mean to be in exile? How the exile changes a man? What is the difference between refuge, expatriate, emigrant - people that moved together with their roots, and also those who do not have them anymore?

You are welcome to visit the performance on November 13th and discover more about this topic through the artwork.
