Masking façades with video-mapping
Every Wednesday evening between July 13th until August 31st the art-nouveau building of Caixa Forum is somehow reinvented with projections of animated images to create terrific optical effects that transform and transcend its shape and dimensions.
The modernist building of Caixa Forum Barcelona hosts one of the latest sensations resulting from applying new technologies to art: video-mapping, a new audiovisual format based on the projection of images upon architectural spaces.
Telenoika, Barcelona’s artists collective which has become a reference when it comes to exploring this new format, provides the audience with astonishing tricks and tridimensional illusions, thusly engaging us in an intense 7 minutes show that mixes electronic music and sound effects with abstract short stories.
The Caixa Forum building
The show takes place in the patios of an emblematic building: the old textile factory located at the foot of Montjuïc, designed in 1911 during the booming of the Catalan art-nouveau period. The building was refurbished and extended in order to render a new function with social, cultural and educational aims by becoming the Caixa Forum Centre. This summer, its walls will be covered with masks reproducing the exact shape and position of the different elements, such as windows, cornices and other architectural lines.
The Telenoika collective
Telenoika is a cultural community located in the multicultural district of El Raval (Barcelona). Not only do they perform video-mapping shows, but also offer courses, workshops and conferences about all kind of multimedia-art related topics. They will be presenting their show at Caixa Forum Barcelona every Wednesday from July 13th until August 31st, at 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Telenoika’s work is included in the Nits d’estiu (summer nights) programme, which also contains photography exhibitions, workshops, concerts and other cultural events.
