How about a cup of overload?
How arrogant can one festival be?
What was Art Rotterdam, the international art fair of the Netherlands, thinking when they planned their festival from the 4th to the 7th of February? Everyone knows, since the beginning of modern times, that this period is the reign of the Internation Film Festival in Rotterdam.
Now, the culture-lovers of this city are facing an impossible task:
where to go?
where to go?
What to think of the party-flowers that bloom in the night? One underground party stumbles over the next, filled with German directors, Bulgarian performance-artists and South-American silversmiths, specialised in conceptual jewellery.
If I were one of those powerful men, who grant subsidy to these festivals, I’d check my calendar, before I’d tell them: "yes, but make it a week later. In favour of all those hard-working, culture-loving creatures that crawl this city. You don’t want to strain them to a cultural overload, or do you?".
Despite their arrogance, Art Rotterdam is a lively festival that offers space to 70 different galeries from 10 different countries. A little high-brow for the simple downtown soul, but their parties make up for everything.
Tomorrow will be a surely unmissable one. No idea who the bands are, but I saw the following post on Ties ten Bosch’s website, one of my favourite artists from Rotterdam (more on him later!):
"Everybody welcome at the party of the year - This saturday at the B.a.d-foundation... start at 19.30 and the end, well, we'll see. Great bands like Doctor Schnitt, der Einzelgängers and ATOS... Also my new work Upper floor/Underground... Hope to see you all!"

I’m always up for Ties’ new work, so thank him, for giving me a reason to choose between this madness of social artsy farsty delights!

Capital of Culture 2001 and City Of Architecture 2007. The Dutch port city is not only one of the most important hubs of global economy - it also reflects symptomatically the urban challenges of our time.
