A Fun Way of Liberalizing at ÇATI Dance

ÇATI ”, which means “roof” in Turkish is a unique dance platform in Istanbul, servicing as a roof for contemporary dance network as its name points, was founded as ÇATI Contemporary Dance Artists Association in 2004.

Who would not like to fly? Most of us dreamt of flying when we were children, some still dreams… Perhaps, the only way to feel like flying is dancing till you loose your body and free your soul. This might happen when you step in a club and dance like you are alone in earth or if you like to take it further you can take some dance classes and amaze the ones around. There is an alternative dance platform in Istanbul, ÇATI Dance, welcomes anyone interested in contemporary dance, movement related arts and the body either as audience or as an enthusiast of dance.

ÇATI Dance provides space for dancers, choreographers, backstage professionals and audiences for creative performances and gatherings. Aiming to establish a sustainable network for collaborations in the field of contemporary dance, ÇATI is also a great experience for people who are not in the field. You can follow up classes from its web-site (http://www.catidans.org/), find the one interests you and go check up with a new experience. You can be completely out of this field and coming from a different area but anyways, ÇATI is an interdisciplinary organization and if you are interested in collaboration within the field of contemporary dance just ring the bell and meet people.

ÇATI Dance’s studio is generally used for workshops and discussions enabling to develop innovative ideas and to create projects of contemporary dance and related fields. It also offers a studio space to be used by rehearsals, performances and workshops such as “Contemporary Technique with Anne Gough”, “License to Fly by Hary Salgado”, “Vania Rovisco: Strategies Regarding the Contemporary Performer” and the classes like “Turkish Bath of Energy”, “Open Improvisation”, “Contact Dance” etc.

ÇATI is a great opportunity for both professionals and amateurs for joining an international network that keeps the interest alive by creating projects and developing partnership with other organizations. As ÇATI team says it is “neither an educational nor a commercial space” but is a creative and experimental ‘roof’ for contemporary dance field.

City

Istanbul
Bridge between Europe and Asia, cosmopolitan frontier post between the two worlds, integrative cultural melting pot: „No other city on this planet is more inspiring than Istanbul“, the parties responsible for the twin capital of culture of Ruhr2010 claim confidently. Who wants to contradict that verdict?
