Consulting without advice

Communications and business coach Martin Sutoris accompanies creative heads

A project manager of a creative company is suffering from stress, a university graduate doesn't know how to use her camera studies, a husband cannot seem to communicate to his wife. Communications and business coach Martin Sutoris accompanied them and led them onto a way that they possibly couldn't have found themselves.

The cultural scientist and business school graduate is pretty much the only one in Germany who is a cultural manager, musician and certified coach at the same time. "There are many who call themselves coach but only a few how specialise in the creative industry and who are creative themselves" says Martin Sutoris who underwent training in neurolinguistic programming (NLP), systemic consulting, communication and settling conflict. His clients are creative, start-ups, artists or managers.

His coachings cover consulting in the business and private area with regards to new businesses, inner blockages, communications and management techniques and personality development. Coachings take about two to three months and take place with one customer or with an entire team. There are a number of institutions such as universities and companies who book sessions on pre-defined topics.

"I don't pretend to know things better than my clients."

Martin Sutoris' motto is: Consulting without suggestions. "I don't know it better than my clients." I'm not a know-it-all, I ask questions and I offer mentoring. Every client achieves his or her very own result."

Therefore, he uses certain conversation models and methods, such as the question technique of reflecting questions. Moreover, Martin Sutoris picks up the statements of his dialogue partners time and again. In a coaching workshop, he was able to once again motivate the university graduate who was missing a good idea and useful alternatives for her professional future.

Martin Sutoris guided her view onto her competencies and helped develop the aspects that were important to her. That's how she developed the idea to become self-employed. With the project manager, Martin Sutoris developed mental self management strategies to work against stress. He was even able to revive the formerly stuck communication in the relationship - even though only one of the spouses had participated in his coaching.

Coachings for creative heads and artists

"Even if a coaching can be a useful enrichment for every human being, creative people and artists tend to respond much quicker to coaching methods" says Martin Sutoris, "and achieve results faster. I ask a lot of questions on emotions and vision - that's how creative people can easily dive in and start working effectively.

Particularly because coaching - no matter if it caters to the management, communication or personality areas - has a creative approach and that's why there is usually a good basis from the start with 'creative customers'."

In general, there are many coaching methods available for different areas of life. "A coaching is a great enrichment for everyone; I see how people benefit from it and how it allows them to take important steps in their lives, both personally and professionally. In addition, it is fun and allows for new views."

Metropole Ruhr
These days, more than 5 million inhabitants do experience the transformation of their post- industrial Ruhr area in the western part of Germany to an exciting European „place to be“, a budding metropolis in a post-Capital of Culture 2010 identification process with its industrial culture as part of a collective memory being a characteristic feature – and an orchestrated mass event.
