21 killed in mass panic at Germany’s Love Parade
- Series: Ökonomie
It was supposed to be the "Tunnel of Love“ leading the participants of Duisburg’s Love Parade to the greatest party in the Ruhr Area with more than one million people in total.
Tragically, it led to devastating consequences for 21 young people that were crushed and suffocated in a mass panic. More than 500 people were injured.
As a consequence to this tragedy, the organiser of the festival announced that no further Love Parades would be held in future.
The Loveparade was organized by the Lopavent company and took place under the banner of the European Capital of Culture in Duisburg.
Between 2007 and 2009 this huge open air techno-festival has already drawn almost three million visitors to the Ruhr Metropolis.
Our sincere condolences go out to all victims and their family members.
