CITY. CHANGE. FUTURE

LABKULTUR is a European webmagazine for culture and creativity. Over 20 authors from the Ruhr area, London, Rotterdam, Istanbul, Nantes and Košice report on cities within the world of digital and social change. They study the influence that culture has on city development and analyse the production and life situations of artists and creatives. LABKULTUR understands creativity as the engine of urban future. It is a project of ecce.

Culture surrounds us as soon as we open our eyes in the morning. Culture accompanies us through the day, it shapes our city life. From reading the newspaper to a discussion about copyright, from appreciating street art to evening concerts or visiting the theatre to experiencing all influences which make our district alive and appealing.

LABKULTUR.TV disputes the contemporary, extended concept of culture which is arising from passive museum visits and mere viewing of a piece of art. Culture and creativity require active participation. In particular European cities and regions with highly industrial and manufacturing pasts must work harder in the future at using culture and creativity as the catalyst to bring about change.

LABKULTUR.TV monitors, accompanies and promotes this change in the Ruhr region and European partner cities. LAB is the European portal for the cultural and creative industries. Out of the creative sectors – architecture, games, journalism, trade in cultural goods, the art market, literature, fashion, music, radio, publishing, advertising – LAB is, above all, devoted to media art as the propellant (driver) to activate companies.

LABKULTUR.TV is based on three pillars

MINDS.CREATIVE presents the cultural operators and makers of change. Which of your cultural ideas lead to the development of the "creative cities", what conditions do creative minds need to work in?

CITY.CHANGE describes city development through cultural impulses - LABKULTUR.TV actively documents and supports these developments and reports on new projects.

POLITICS.STRATEGY reviews concepts and visions in the cultural and creative industries and reports on their feasibility and chances of success.

LABKULTUR.TV is web TV, online editorials and blog forum transmitting from the Dortmunder U, a Europe wide centre for art and creativity.
